Serving Seattle-area multi-entity ownership groups since 1971 · Licensed WA CPAs

Accounting Built Around Complex Ownership Structures

Greenwood Ohlund provides multi-entity accounting for ownership groups, holding companies, and family offices across the Seattle area. When you hold a dozen LLCs, each one has its own books and its own year-end, so it can be hard to get a picture of how the whole group is doing. Intercompany loans and due-to/due-from balances drift out of sync. Management-company costs get allocated by habit rather than by method. Tax flows through partnerships, S corps, and C corps at different rates and different times.

We also handle intercompany accounting, consolidated statements, and the multi-entity CFO services that turn a stack of separate entities into one clear set of numbers you can actually run the group on.

The Challenges Multi-Entity Ownership Groups Face and How We Help

We consolidate your entities into one set of statements with intercompany transactions eliminated, so the group’s numbers reflect real outside activity rather than money moving between your own companies.

We reconcile intercompany balances every close, so both sides of every internal transaction agree instead of slowly drifting apart.

We standardize your chart of accounts across the group and run every entity on the same closing calendar, so consolidation is a step rather than a project.

We build an allocation method you can document and defend, so shared overhead lands where it belongs instead of wherever it landed last year.

What Makes Multi-Entity Ownership Groups Accounting Different

GAAP consolidation rules determine which entities belong in your consolidated statements, and variable-interest-entity considerations can pull in entities you don’t technically own a majority of. Every intercompany transaction has to be eliminated, and related-party transactions carry their own disclosure requirements. Get any of it wrong and your statements misstate the group.

Underneath that sits the operational part, which is where most breakdowns happen: a unified chart of accounts, clean intercompany tracking, and a close that’s built for consolidation from the start. We set that foundation up, then handle the tax layer on top of it. Partnership special allocations under §704(b) have to follow the operating agreement rather than a pro-rata split. Multi-state nexus and apportionment determine where the group owes. And Washington’s B&O tax applies at the entity level on gross receipts, including on some intercompany charges, which is a different question from how the group is taxed federally.

Why Multi-Entity Ownership Groups Choose Greenwood Ohlund

Decades in construction and real estate accounting

We’ve been doing this since 1971.

Tax, audit, accounting, and CFO expertise, one firm

Most firms our size don’t offer all four under one roof. You get a tax team, an audit team, and a CFO-level advisory team who already talk to each other, instead of coordinating three separate vendors yourself.

Seattle-rooted, with clients across Washington and beyond

We’re based in Seattle and built around the Pacific Northwest, with clients in other states when the relationship calls for it.

A relationship that runs all year, not just tax season

We’re recognized as a Peak Firm and a PSBJ Washington’s Best Workplaces honoree, and that same culture shows up in how we work with clients: regular conversations and actual availability, not a firm you hear from once a year.

FAQ

Multi-Entity Ownership Groups Accounting FAQs

Multi-entity accounting maintains separate books for each company in a group while producing consolidated statements for the group as a whole. It covers intercompany transactions, cost allocations, and a standardized chart of accounts across entities. We handle all three.

Consolidation combines every entity in the group into one set of statements, then eliminates intercompany transactions so internal activity doesn’t inflate the totals. As a consolidated financial statements CPA, we determine which entities consolidate and produce statements your lenders will accept.

Every internal transaction gets recorded on both entities’ books and then removed at consolidation, so the group’s revenue and expenses reflect only outside activity. We reconcile those balances at each close rather than at year-end.

It depends on what each entity does, where it operates, and how you plan to exit. Partnerships, S corps, and C corps carry different rates, different liability treatment, and different consequences on sale. We model the options before you commit.

If you’re making capital allocation decisions across entities without consolidated numbers, yes. Our holding company accounting in Seattle includes CFO-level support: consolidated reporting, intercompany oversight, and lender or investor packages.

It depends on the number of entities, how clean the existing books are, and whether you need consolidation monthly or annually. We start with a conversation about your structure, then build a proposal around it.
