Michaela Thomassen

As a fourth-generation commercial fisherman, I spent 11 summers working in a very unconventional “office” – on the back deck of a fishing boat in remote parts of Alaska. In 2020, I traded the deckhand life for a full-time career in accounting.

As you can imagine from my background, I’m not your typical tax accountant. I take pride in building genuine connections with people and making them feel heard and valued – or at the very least, making them laugh. I’m a big people person; some might even say I could “carry on a conversation with a brick wall.”

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is partnering with nonprofits and seeing firsthand the impact they make in their communities. I get to work with a large variety of people, missions, and organizations, which not only keeps every day interesting, but also makes tax work feel especially meaningful.

I’m also bit of a nomad. After growing up in Alaska, I’ve since lived in Washington (twice), Colorado, and now Dallas, where I landed in 2021. If you email me during the late summer, there’s a chance you’ll get an out-of-office reply while I’m off on my annual solo trip to Europe!
