Doug Meck, CPA, EA, MAcc
His personal experience in retail, wholesale, and service businesses has provided Doug with a first-hand perspective regarding the multitude of challenges facing today’s business owner. Now in his fifth decade in the accounting industry, an expertise in business and individual tax remains his foundation. Doug truly enjoys the challenge of working with exempt organizations in the post-2008 environment of transparency and disclosure, and views Form 990 as an opportunity for tax exempts to “tell their story” to the public.
Joining Greenwood, Ohlund & Co. in February 2011, Doug brings considerable experience in tax and small business accounting to the firm. After graduating from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa he started a tax and accounting practice in his home town of Burlington which he operated for more than 25 years. Looking to gain more tax expertise, Doug sat for and passed the Enrolled Agent exam in 1991, allowing him to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service. In 2004, a little burned out from wearing “all the hats”, he sold the practice and moved to Pella, Iowa and took a tax manager position with RSM McGladrey in Iowa’s capital city. The transition from a small firm with 8 employees to the fifth largest accounting firm in the US with 8,000 employees proved to be a catalyst for change. Immediately recognizing the need to improve his credentials, Doug went back to Drake University, earned a Master of Accounting, and passed the CPA exam. Since July 2014 Doug has served as Tax Director and as a member of the GO management team.
